"Watch out for the Chair" I have been snowboarding for 3 years and started free carving last season. Since I am 43 years old, crazy for speed, and want to continue snowboarding for a long time, I purchased a Boeri Myto Sport. It has saved my noggin several times but this story is not about me. I have a 9-year-old daughter who started snowboarding with me late last season I bought her the same helmet I wear. The third time we rode together, we were confronted by a Spring Midwestern Snowstorm. The snow was VERY sticky. On our first trip up the lift, I went first and she was in the chair right behind me. When I set my board down and it went nowhere I know she would be in trouble when my daughter put her board down she stood up. The chair pushed her down the ramp and then she raised her head to call for me. The corner of the chair clobbered her right in the back of the head. It hit her so hard that it knocked her face into the snow. She took the impact on the forehead of her helmet. I am convinced that had she not been wearing your helmet, her injuries would have been significant. As it was, I picked her up and let her cry off the scare. Thanks Boeri, my daughter is quite proud of the scratch on the back of her helmet and I am quite happy that it is not a scar on the back of her pretty little head. --Don "Dangerous Don" Joslin 2. "Extreme Skier takes a 1,200 foot fall!" I have currently been competing in Free (Extreme) skiing competitions in the States, where I won all the competitions I entered, and became the USA 1997 Women Extreme Champion. In these events it is mandatory to wear a helmet. I was a little resentful to begin with as I am used to wearing my hat, but much to my surprise the Boeri Helmet was very warm and I could hear well. There is quite a change happening in the States and you are seeing more and more people wearing helmets, ski patrols are also taking up the trend. My helmet definitely saved my life when I went for a 1,200 foot fall in Alaska. I was skiing my first run of the competition when I hooked an edge on my second run; the conditions were so windswept and slick that I picked up speed and slid into a pile of rocks half way down. I must have been going fast as my Dad recalls I fell 10 feet out from the rocks once I hit them. I (was) recovering from head injuries, but thanks to my helmet, I am still here. I have now resolved to wear a helmet free skiing and while ski patrolling at Cardrona, New Zealand. --Brigitte Mead Special Note: If anyone saw Brigittes fall on television you would not believe she is still ripping it up today, thanks to her Boeri Helmet. Look for the article on Brigitte in the March 1998 issue of Conde` Nast Sports for Women. (https://www.condenet.com/mags/sports/index.html) 3. "US Ski Team Member bails in practice." Wow! What a crash! It was the worst bail Ive ever had in my life. The place was Coronet Peak, New Zealand, and the event was Super G. I was just finishing my first turn of the day, the light was flat and I had trouble pick out some of the changes in the snow. As I went around the last gate, I had to make a quick decision, whether to go around the left or the right side of the snow making pipes. Unfortunately, I chose the right, I started to stop and I started to bounce because of the tremendously bad grooming, then I hit the compression and caught an edge. As I started to fall I knew what was approaching, a metal posted fence and I though to myself, " this is going to hurt!" All of a sudden, boom, I hit the fence and came to a frightening stop. I had troubles breathing and my whole body was sore. From what people tell me I am lucky to be alive. Chad Fleischer and Tommy Moe jumped off the chair, Chad thinking he was going to have to give me CPR and Tommy thinking I broke my back. Fortunately, I started feeling better with the help of the team doctor and a few x-rays proving I was okay. I thank my Boeri Helmet for getting me through this crash. I would not want anything else on my head. --Chad Wolk 4. "Just ridin along and WHAM!" My name is Joey Sonntag. I am twenty-one years old and reside in West Dover, VT. I have been riding for five years and been actively competing for the last two. I am sponsored by Boeri Helmets, Airwalk, Smith Sport Optics, and Mount Snow Resort. --After training all day in the half-pipe, Joey took a warm-down run with a friend. This is what happened:-- We were cruising about three quarters of the way down when on a tow-side turn, I felt as if a Mack Truck had plowed into me I turned around and saw Shannon lying face down with no movement As I watched my friend get carted down the hill, I stopped and realized that I was standing on my own, with no visible injuries. When I got to the bottom, I quickly raced to base first aid where I was told that Shannon was about to be sent out to the hospital. After many x-rays and cat-scans, the extent of her injuries were the following: a severe concussion, two cuts on either eye-brow, a broken nose, a bruised cheek-bone, slightly loosened teeth, a cut on her nose, etc. The Doctors opinion is that the helmet absorbed the blow for both of us and if I didnt have a helmet on, the injuries would have been much more severe. If we had hit skull to skull we would most likely have crushed or split our skulls open and ultimately wound up with brain damage or have died. Just carving down the mountain accidents can happen. But thanks to my guardian angles, God, and my Boeri Helmet, I can tell you about mine. --Joey Sonntag
