Frequently Asked Questions

Where are Boeri ski and snowboard helmets made?
Boeri ski and snowboard helmets are manufactured in Milan, Italy by Boeri Sport. Boeri Sport has been manufacturing helmets for over 36 years.

Are Boeri ski and snowboard helmets just for kids?
Boeri ski and snowboard helmets are for every age and ability. Our vast sizing range allows an excellent fit for people of all sizes. Adults nationwide are realizing the benefits of wearing protective headgear on the slopes as they experience enhanced performance.

How can I be sure my helmet is fitting properly?
Boeri ski and snowboard helmets should fit snug without being uncomfortable. The front of the helmet should be right above your eyebrows without your forehead showing. See the Boeri Fit System for further information.

When purchasing a Boeri helmet for my child, should I buy a larger size so my child can grow into it?
Absolutely not. Optimal protection lies in a snug fit. A childs head does not grow as fast as their legs, arms, and feet. When fit properly, a child should get two seasons out of a helmet.

Can I use my Boeri helmet for other sports?
Boeri ski and snowboard helmets are specific to those sports, and designed for colder weather. They are not intended for any motorized or other applications unless clearly noted.

Should I wear a hat underneath my Boeri helmet?
No. Wearing a hat underneath a helmet negatively affects the fit of the helmet. Rather than resting on your head (like it should), the helmet is resting on the hat, which results in the helmet not fitting properly. If you do feel that that you need to wear something under your helmet, Turtle Fur makes a product called Shella Clava.

Are short helmets less protective than full shapes?
Short helmets are popular because they are less constricting and feel more like a hat. Short helmets generally absorb the same levels of force as a full shaped helmet, but often have features that make them more versatile, like removable ear flaps and neck covers. Short helmets will never accommodate an add-on jaw protector that can regularly be fit to full shape helmets.

How much protection does a wintersport specific helmet really provide?
The Boeri models are all made for action activity the type of posture and body position you are in while skiing or snowboarding requires a low profile, close fitting design. Certainly foreseeable impacts can exceed the helmets ability to protect against injury. All Boeri helmets sold are CE and ASTM approved (Shorty Air is CE only) and are tested to absorb full stop impacts of 10+ miles per hour. In cases of indirect or glancing contact with a stationary object, the helmet can offer protection from not only abrasion and laceration but also higher force impacts.

Are Full-Face helmets recommended for skiing?
In BorderCross and Free Skiing situations more and more moto-cross type equipment is showing up in the marketplace. Full-face helmets offer more protection against impact, laceration and abrasions, but there is also a flip side to the added protection. These helmets are larger, heavier and can have other effects as a result. Some studies indicate that the integral style jaw piece can work as a lever and cause neck sprains or worse. It is really a matter of personal choice, but it is a good idea to know the pros and cons so a good decision can be made.

Which helmet has the best venting system?
The R&D; facility at Boeri is a strong proponent for Removing Heat versus introducing cool air, therefor the newest designs utilize temperature maintenance fabrics and passive venting systems versus traditional ram air venting holes in the front and exhaust ports in the rear. Traditional ram air venting works well when youre moving, but heat usually is a problem while your waiting in the line or riding up the lift. In these situations the newer technology is more effective in keeping you cool.
